Public League Wrestling Champs: Northeast secures historic victory over Academy at Palumbo

2026 Wrestling Champs

On Wednesday, the Public League hosted the 2026 Philadelphia Public League Wrestling Championship at Northeast High School between the Northeast High School Vikings and the Academy @ Palumbo Griffins.

Since 2009, Northeast High School has dominated the Public League Wrestling scene, competing in all 18 Championship matches and winning 11 PPL Titles in that stretch. Head coach Michael Siravo has taken Northeast wrestling and built it into a powerhouse that continues to win year after year.

They would face an upcoming Academy at Palumbo wrestling team, competing in their first ever Public League Championship after an impressive, last second win over Central High School in the Semi-Finals.

Final Score: 44-27 Northeast High School

A strong start from the Vikings would ultimately be too much to handle despite a late push from the Griffins and the Northeast Vikings would ultimately take the Championship, marking their 6th straight championship victory!

With this win, Northeast overtakes Frankford High School for the most Public League Wrestling Titles (12) by a school since the creation of the PPL Wrestling Program in 1976.

We at the Public League would like to congratulate the Northeast Vikings on their historic achievement and are looking forward to their continued success!
